Kenneth C. Kennard

Dec. 18, 1926 ~ July 28, 2009

Kenneth C. Kennard, age 83, died peacefully Tuesday at 6 p.m. in the arms of his family at his home in Sarasota.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Alberta L. Kennard; a son, Norman J. Kennard of Harrisburg, Pa.; a daughter, Kathleen M. Hurst of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and a daughter, Elaine Schoch of Mims.

Ken served in the U.S. Navy from 1944 to 1946. Upon returning home from service he earned a B.S. degree from Notre Dame University. He married Alberta in 1949, and subsequently earned an advanced degree in chemistry from the University of Nebraska. In 1954 he was employed by Eastman Kodak Co. in Rochester, N.Y., until retirement in 1987. In 1964, he was awarded an M.B.A. from M.I.T. He was active in community affairs such as a school board member in Hilton, N.Y., the International Red Cross and especially international student exchange programs.

Ken leaves, in addition to his children, six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a brother-in-law, Charles R. Wintz; a sister-in-law, Marilyn Hemminger; and numerous, wonderful friends from around the world.

A good husband, father, and friend, he will be missed immensely by all.

The family cannot thank the staff of TideWell Hospice enough for all of the professional, dignified, and loving care that they provided.

A "celebration of life" will be held at Wiegand Brothers Funeral Home and Crematory at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 8, 2009.
